2011 飯塚国際車いすテニス大会を終えて

今年で27回目を数える本大会も、選手、役員、関係者の皆様、そして多くのボランティアの皆様に支えられ、輝かしい成果を残して閉幕することができましたことを心よりお喜び申し上げます。特に今年は東日本大震災等の影響により、歓迎レセプションを中止するなど厳しい運営を余儀なくされた中で、前田会長をはじめ、関係各位の熱意と努力によって、例年以上の「ホスピタリティ」あふれる大会となりましたことを大変すばらしく思います。

今年は初回に次ぐ参加選手が少ない大会となったようですが、「がんばろう日本、そのスマッシュでみんなに勇気を！」の大会スローガンどおりに、連日選手の皆さんによる白熱したプレーが展開され、その姿は多くの観客に感動と興奮を与え、遠く離れた被災地にもエールとして届いたものと思っております。また被災地だけでなく世界に対しても、日本が元気なことを飯塚の地から発信することができたのではないでしょうか。
大会内容につきましても、強豪の外国人選手の中にあって、若い選手の台頭を含め、日本人選手の活躍は目を見張るものがありました。この大会への関心もさらに深まり、支援の輪がさらに大きく広がっていくものと確信いたしております。
来年はパラリンピック開催の年。これまで以上に多くの選手の皆さんがここ飯塚を訪れてくださるように「飯塚の魅力」がたくさん詰まったこの大会を地域の皆さんとともに大切に育ててまいりたいと存じます。
終わりに、本大会のますますの発展とともに、関係各位のますますのご活躍を祈念いたしまして、ご挨拶とさせていただきます。

2011　Iizuka　
International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament

I would like to congratulate you on the great success of the 27th International Wheelchair Tennis Tournament thanks to the participation of many players and the support of many people. In spite of the influence of the Great East Japan Earthquake, Ms. Eri Maeda and other members of the organization made great effort to hold this tournament and hosted it with abundant hospitality.
Under the slogan, "Try hard, Japan. Every smash will bring everyone courage", all the players had exciting games. A lot of spectators were impressed by their performances. I believe that it must have given "Courage and Hope" not only to the people in the stricken area but also to people around the world.
This year, many talented young players emerged. In particular, the Japanese players performed well. I am sure numerous people will have had their interest in the tournament and the circle of　 support will expand.
Next year, there will be Paralympic Games, so I hope more players will attend this tournament as a warm-up for the Games.
In closing, I hope for the further development of the tournament and wish you continued success.
I am looking forward to seeing you next year.
